CHEF TEC NETWORK INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONSInstallation Instructions for the Server NOTE: ChefTec can be installed onto all major types of network, namely, Microsoft, NT, XP and Novell Netware (that supports long file names and has them enabled). Please find the serial number on the outside of the license agreement envelope. Should you enter the serial number incorrectly, you will receive a "Trial version" message when you open ChefTec. To correct this, simply reinstall the software paying close attention to the serial number. Please do not reinstall the original CD after you have entered data and/or after you have received a program update! You can refer to "Installing ChefTec" in the Getting Started manual to find instructions for installing ChefTec or follow the steps below: The drive where ChefTec is installed on the Server must have full read and write access and be shared! To install, follow the steps outlined below:
The program may continue to install after you see the "Finish" screen. Please wait a few minutes before starting ChefTec. If you are unable to install the software onto the server directly, you can install the program from a client onto the server. This will place the proper files onto the server. Example: The server computer has no CD-drive. The server software can be installed from any client with a CD-drive that is visible to the server. Option 1: (Assume that the server sees the client CD-drive as drive G:.) From the server, with the CD in the client CD-drive, click on Start | Run. Type G:\SETUP. Click <OK> . Follow the instructions for steps 5-8 above. Option 2: (Assume that the client sees the server shared directory as N:.) From the client follow the instructions for steps 2-8 above. You would change the directory path drive from C: to N:... . If you do not want to install any software onto the server, you may copy the required files from a client to the server. You can then run ChefTec from any client. Follow the instructions above to install the full ChefTec program "locally" onto a client. Once the installation on the client has been completed, copy the ChefTec directory and its subdirectories onto the server drive and path desired. Then run the client program below for other clients. The client computer on which the full ChefTec was installed must have additional changes made. To complete these changes, please contact our customer support department to make an appointment. Note: In this instance, ChefTec CANNOT be run directly from the server, i.e., the server is NOT also a client.
Installation Instructions for the Client(s) The Clients must have access to the drive on the Server where ChefTec is installed! The Server version must be installed before the Client version can be installed! To install, simply run (from the client) the program SetupClient.exe located on the ChefTec directory that you chose on your server. The drive on the server where ChefTec was installed often has a different label as seen by a client, e.g., C: on the server may be N: on the client! Please contact your network administrator if you have ANY questions about the process. Outlined below is an example of the installation if you kept C:\Program Files\ChefTec as the ChefTec directory on the server. The client reads the server C: drive as N:.
If you receive a message that Windows cannot find the specified file or components, you have specified the wrong drive and/or ChefTec directory. Correct the path in the Run window and run the program again.
Installation Instructions for the BDE Administrator SetupClient also installs the Borland database engine (BDE), which cannot "guess" which network path to follow to the network directory. This engine on each computer is what allows the computers to share access control files which allow multiple users to access the ChefTec files on the shared drive simultaneously. If these engines are not all looking at the same network directory for their access control files, you get the "Directory is controlled by another .NET file" error when trying to run multiple clients. To avoid this error, you must configure each client computer's BDE administrator to look in the same location.

Update Version on CD-ROM |
NOTE: Enclosed is a system update for your ChefTec software. This update will add new features and enhancements to your previous version of the program; it will copy some files and skip others. Updates will not overwrite data previously entered in the correct directory. If you have changed any directories in ChefTec, be sure you are updating the correct directory. Any data in the "ChefTec" directory will be overwritten! Please do not reinstall an earlier update onto a more recently updated system! Once started, the update must be completed. You cannot run ChefTec after partially installing an update!. You can refer to "Installing ChefTec" in the Getting Started manual to find instructions for installing ChefTec or follow the steps below:
